About Novus Accounting
We developed the Engaged Accounting Approach because the number of women-owned businesses and female entrepreneurs is increasing.
Despite this, few accounting firms in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) specialize in this area.
This market needs a new, specialized approach. According to a 2014 Stats Canada study, women scored lower than men on a test of financial literacy. Women also indicated that they had less confidence in their financial knowledge than their male counterparts.
This is alarming for many reasons, not the least of which is that approximately fifty percent (50%) of all small businesses fail within the first five years. The primary reason for failure is a lack of financial know-how and poor planning (e.g. no knowledge of pricing, financing, not understanding how to keep proper records, etc.). This means that lack of financial literacy, coupled with a lack of confidence, results in a greater barrier to long-term success for women-owned businesses.
The few accounting firms that do mention services geared to women-owned businesses list them as one of many services provided, not as a specialized area of expertise.
What Novus Accounting provides is a customized approach that addresses the specific needs of female clients.

About Nancy Wilson, Founder of Novus Accounting
I love accounting – and I love working with people. I understand the stereotype of the stuffy, introverted accountant who speaks only in technical terms and asks condescending questions of his or her clients – I’ve met those accountants. I’ve worked with them, too. But that’s not my style.
My goal is twofold: one, to help women business owners and entrepreneurs to build sustainable, resilient businesses. And two, for my clients to love working with their accountant. The Engaged Accounting Approach is built on these two goals in its focus on the client relationship and the delivery of exceptional services.
Yes, I love accounting, and a great Excel spreadsheet makes me happier than a Law & Order marathon on a rainy Sunday (I do love my L&O), but what gets me up in the morning is learning new things, meeting new people, and working with my clients to tackle new challenges.
